2 Days @ the Shooting Range

I spent two days at the range: had one really disappointing day and one that started-out disappointing but ended up alright. All shots were done with a .308 at 100yd on a standard 100yd targets.

Day one, target one. The pattern is Awful but it's a new gun and a new scope so I figured the barrel needed broken in and the scope sited.

Day one, target two Still can’t get it sighted, a new barrel should not be this bad. There's got to be a serious problem with the gun, the scope or me.

Day two, Target one I returned to the range thinking the gun or the scope may have to be returned on warranty, but it turned out it was the ammo. The holes circled and numbered are the last three I shot at this target, I changed ammo to shoot these three. I was aiming at the hole with the arrow pointing at it. After shooting these three I adjusted windage and elevation.

Day two, Target Two These were all shot in the order they are numbered. 1-4 were done making slight windage & elevation adjustments between them. By 7 & 8 I was running out of time and got into too much of a hurry and was not controlling my breathing or anything. Shot 9 I slowed down and made it count, with a little more time I may have been able to get closer, but at least I figured out it was not the gun, the scope or the shooter. I knew ammo can make a difference but I did not realize it could be that bad.

BO and BS

Wow I'm trying to figure out weather BO would be a good care sales man or not. He sure tried to make a load of Bull Shit sound like caviar tonight. To stand there and try to make me believe there's no pork in it... it's nothing but pork. The more we find out about it the less it looks like a "Stimulus Package". Look it over it is nothing more than a payoff to the special interest groups who put lipstick on this stinky pig and got him elected. Any of it that does actually create a job only creates short term jobs. The problem is when he tries to make something as bad as this "Stimulus Package" sound good he only smells worse.

H.R.45

Earlier I poasted regarding the failed Ammunition Accountability Act although it failed your a fool if you think the gun banners won't try it again. The more present threat is H.R.45 here is a brief run down of this one.

1. Require licensing for anybody that owns a gun.
2. Would require photographs and a thumbprint
3. Would require passage of a test that covers:
(A) the safe storage of firearms, particularly in the vicinity of persons who have not attained 18 years of age;
(B) the safe handling of firearms;
(C) the use of firearms in the home and the risks associated with such use;
(D) the legal responsibilities of firearms owners, including Federal, State, and local laws relating to requirements for the possession and storage of firearms, and relating to reporting requirements with respect to firearms; and
(E) any other subjects, as the Attorney General determines to be appropriate;

H.R.45, also known as Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009, introduced by Bobby Rush, D-Ill, is aimed at licensing all firearms in the United States. Just a tasty tid-bit on Bobby Rush this is the same Bobby Rush who was the “defense secretary” of the black panthers. I believe his own son was a gang banger who got himself killed in the hood. Bobby’s nephew killed a guy in a drug deal and Bobby himself did time for gun possession. The fact that this guy has the gall to try to impose gun regulations on any would be laughable if it were not such a serious constitutional threat.

This one is Federal not State and is currently being reviewed in committee. Although there are arguments to the constitutionality of portions of this one the gun grabbers have just been emboldened by the election of Gun Banner Obama. So be aware and write or call your senators and representatives.

Ammunition Accountability Act

Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including TN, Illinois and Indiana) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture, a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo) They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!

Please give this the widest distribution possible and contact your Reps!

It's the ammo, not the guns....

I've said for a long time that they wouldn't go for your guns, they'd go for your ammo... guns have a Constitutional protection. Ammo does not. A list of states where this legislation is pending is in the final paragraph. Not in CO yet, they'll go where the pansies are first.

Heads up to all of you who swore to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND domestic. Let your state Legislatures know that we do not want this bill passed, and petition them to vote no on this bill. We should keep after them until the bill is closed by bombarding them with e-mails, phone calls, and letters.

Get to all your politicians to get to work and NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!!

The 2008 Legislative session has begun, and the Ammunition Accountability Act is being introduced across the country. Below is a list of states where legislation has already been introduced:
Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana,Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York,Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.


Then the e-mail gives the web address of several groups supporting the AAA I’m not going to do so because I don’t feel like supporting them by funneling web traffic to their web pages (as if anyone visits my blog any way). Don’t bother going to Snopes they don’t have any data so I’m going to give you the skinny on this one.

I had heard of this before I received the e-mail and it is real it’s just a little old and of the 18 states listed only one, California (go figure) passed anything similar and as I remember their bill requires an identifying mark to be left by the firing pin. In all the other states it did not even make it out of their respective comities and would now have to be totally reintroduced in order to be readdressed. That is not to say this sort of thing is not a threat because it is true guns are protected by the constitution and ammo is not.

Although the AAA never really got any steam behind it we need to stay alert to this kind of garbage we'll see more of it in the next four years and when we do we need to be loud and clear and make sure our elected officials hear our disapproval.

Humality and Heroism

I have the good fortune of working in a department that allows me to work from home (WFH) one day a week. I usually WFH on Wednesday but a scheduling conflict had me WHF on Thursday, I feel fortunate because this allowed me to have the radio and the TV on and watch the events surrounding the crash of US Airways Flight 1549 unfold as I worked.

A terrible tragedy was averted that day but I want to say. Wow Americans are awesome! From the pilots and rescuers to the passengers who had done nothing wrong but be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not to neglect Gods merciful had but watching and then hearing personal accounts afterward all involved truly showed the stuff the good citizens of this wonderful country are made of.

I realize we may not always agree on politics, theology and so on but when it comes to human life and tragedy we come together and we become stronger and demonstrate our immense capacity for humanity and compassion.

When the engines were taken out on that airliner did the pilot give up, no obviously not demonstrated in the fact the the plane is mostly intact and not one passenger was lost. But his efforts to save these lives did not start the moment the engines were lost it began decades before when he began training to become the best pilot he could be. All his training and preparation made sure he was able to keep his head and and do everything right not by luck but by talent and preparation. He is rightfully a hero in my eyes.

Then when the plane hit the water it did not take a moment before the nearby ferries converged on the scene to help. These ferries likely had busy people on them on there way to appointments an such but at that moment all was forgotten and everybodys selfless efforts were focused on saving lives. From civilians to sworn professional rescue personnel these are also examples of how awesome Americans are.

As can be expected there was some chaos, confusion screaming and praying but once the plane settled in to the water passengers quickly started to calm and those who gained there composure helped to calm others. Then and effort to quickly and safely get every one out in an organised safe manner ensuring no one was left behind. Then the pilot made several more sweeps of the passenger compartment to ensure everyone had evacuated. Yes there were injuries both physical and mental but they are all alive to recover because by working to gather everyone was eventual rescued.

At times I get concerned that this is no longer Gods country but on that day it truly was.
